This is a brief message regarding the latest "Sasser" virus which is many affect many windows based computers. While this virus has been given a Mid-Level warning by SARC (Symantec Virus Center), this virus is unique In that your computer can be affected just be leaving it on. This is especially dangerous if you have an “always-on” DSL or cable connection.

Virus Description  Sasser
W32.Sasser attempts to exploit the LSASS vulnerability described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-011. This worm spreads by scanning randomly selected IP addresses for vulnerable systems

Remedy
Virus definitions are available from Norton and Network Associates as is a windows update from Microsoft so please make sure your definitions are up to date and that you run windows update.

To best protect your system from this and other types of future attacks we recommend that you buy an install a $40-$50 stand-alone firewall. Low end firewalls are typically called routers and are available from vendors like Linksys and Netgear.
